Sub-Family International Services
Sub-Family Description

Employees in this subfamily are responsible for the management and administration of services to the institution’s foreign scholars and staff and provide technical support for student immigration matters. Duties include overseeing and administering all aspects of immigration-related services including documentation and record-keeping for employment-based immigrants, H-1, J-1, B1/B2, TN and WB personnel and scholars. Employees advise departments on current USCIS, Department of State and Department of Labor regulations and procedures. Coordinates the development and implementation of immigration-related policies and procedures.

Stream Management
Stream Description

This career stream typically includes supervisory and management staff responsible for focusing on tactical or operational activities within a specified area. A manager is define as an administrator responsible for accomplishing department objectives and operations of at least one work unit, which includes managing staff and short- and mid-term planning of department activities. Takes corrective action as necessary to ensure departmental goals are accomplished by established deadlines. The most important factors are (1) clear responsibility for managing performance and goals of a work unit and (2) formal supervision of at least two full-time staff (or its equivalent). Managing performance of staff requires writing and delivering performance evaluations and monitoring production and overall work quality. The entry job title used for this stream is Supervisor. Generally, managers are responsible for the daily operations and work quality for assigned areas, and may have control or input over hiring, firing, promotion, & reward authority for assigned staff or work teams.

Level Description

• Typically reports to a Level 4 Manager or Level 1 Executive
• Responsible for managing all of a single department or part of a large/complex department consisting of Level 2 Managers or senior IC staff who exercise discretion and independent judgment
• Contributes to the operational plans of the division, school, or major functional area
• Typically has hiring, firing, promotion and reward authority within own area
• May have responsibility for managing an operational budget

Job Classification Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
