| Job Description Summary: | The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA) is one of the world’s leading schools of international affairs. Located in the heart of Washington, DC, its mission is to educate the next generation of international leaders, conduct research that advances understanding of important global issues, and engage the policy community in the United States and around the world. The school’s unique location—just steps from the White House, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, U.S. Department of State, and dozens of other U.S. and international organizations—enriches its teaching and research, providing students and scholars with unmatched opportunities to engage with the U.S. and international policy communities. Diversity and Inclusion are two core priorities for the Elliott School and its commitment is shared in its Diversity Statement. The Elliott School is committed to attracting candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences. The Project on Middle East Political Science (POMEPS) is a national network of scholars based at GWU’s Institute for Middle East Studies and currently seeks a Program Associate. This position will support the project in all of its capacities so that the Elliott School may continue to receive grant funding for this project in the future. This position supports the Elliott School’s commitment to Scholarship, Teaching, Ethics, and Practice, by developing the field of political science and fostering the next generation of scholars and scholarship on the Middle East. POMEPS is unique in its mission and scope and its association with GWU broadly, and the Elliott School specifically, has increased recognition of the institution’s prestige among other top academics in the field. This position is essential for the continued success of this project. The purpose of this position is to provide coordination and program management on behalf of an academic program or initiative. This role will serve as a point of contact for the program, will answer program questions from faculty, staff, and students, and will provide functional support for the program administration. Functional support could include answering most inquiries, enrollment guidance, managing web presence and some marketing efforts, drafting program materials, planning and executing events, tracking spending and processing payments, preparing and analyzing reports, and similar duties. Often these positions make recommendations to policy and procedure. Often these roles are tasked with outreach to other GW stakeholders in order to assist in maintaining standard operational efficiencies. Typical duties often are administrative in nature including tasks that are routine, and under general or limited supervision of more senior personnel within the department, or program. The POMEPS Program Associate reports to the director of POMEPS. In addition to managing the two main grants that fund POMEPS operations (the Henry Luce Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation of New York) the Program Associate will also assist the director with any other special grants that forward its goals. Specific responsibilities include: • Editing/Posting: Edits papers for inclusion in POMEPS publications. Prepares content for introduction to POMEPS Series and POMEPS Briefs collections. May also assist in soliciting, editing, and publishing articles to the Monkey Cage at The Washington Post. Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
