Position Description Summary:

The Department of Prevention and Community Health in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University seeks a full-time tenure track or tenured Assistant or Associate Professor to serve as a faculty member within the Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC) MPH program.

The successful candidate will pursue a vibrant, externally funded research in areas relevant to the intersection of clinical care and health promotion, will teach at the graduate level, and mentor and advise masters and doctoral students.

The Milken Institute School of Public Health has a diverse and growing faculty, with a rapidly expanding research portfolio. As the only school of public health in the nation’s capital, faculty and students have a unique opportunity to work closely with government and non-governmental organizations headquartered in DC. The Department of Prevention and Community Health comprises faculty from across many disciplines, conducting both domestic and international research focused on the social determinants of health and health promotion at various social ecological levels. Faculty within the Department are funded by external research grants and contracts from a broad range of local, state and federal agencies as well as from public and private philanthropy. Along with this vibrant research environment, the Department also has a commitment to training and mentoring students at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include an active role in research, teaching, and service.

The successful candidate will:

1) pursue an externally funded research program,
2) teach in the COPC MPH and doctoral programs,
3) mentor and advise graduate students,
4) participate in service and committee-related activities to the Department, School, University, and candidate’s profession.

Areas of particular interest to the Department include the use of community-based innovative prevention research at the intersection of any of the following areas: community-based participatory research, primary care, health disparities, community medicine, family medicine, health care for the underserved and/or immigrant health. Inclusion of multiple areas of such methodological expertise in candidates’ research and academic interests will be particularly welcome.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a field related to public health, medicine, nursing, health sciences, social sciences or education conferred prior to the date of appointment (July 2018). Applicants must have a proven track-record of peer-reviewed publications, and have either a demonstrated record of or potential to obtain external funding commensurate with level of appointment. Additionally, applications must demonstrate the potential to teach in one or more of the following areas: social determinants of health, community medicine, family medicine, health care for the underserved and/or immigrant health, at the masters and/or doctoral levels.
