I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Job Description Summary:

The Research Assistant will serve as a project coordinator and analyst for the Significant Features of the Property Tax (SFPT) project, a collaborative ongoing project undertaken by the George Washington Institute of Public Policy and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. The project produces a compendium of information and research, with annual updates, for policymakers, practitioners, elected officials, researchers, and journalists on the property tax in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Primary areas of responsibility include:

Maintains, augments, and updates the SFPT dataset

Produces basic research products, such as summaries and data tables describing patterns or trends in property tax regulation and producing an annual report tracking trends in state changes to the property tax

Seeks out existing or developing new databases complementary to the SFPT

Provides targeted communication to SFPT users and potential users

Compiles data compliant with annual contracts on such matters as summaries of ongoing changes to the SFPT database.

Facilitates communication among the SFPT research team and coordinate team meetings.

Performs other work duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning tasks logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

A BA/BS in related discipline is required, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a relevant field such as public policy, public finance, governmental affairs, and legal analysis or a Master’s degree in a relevant field such a public policy, public finance, political science, or law is preferred but not required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Familiarity with tracking legislative histories or statutory change and their relevant databases (e.g., LexisNexis) a definite plus. Skill at parsing legal language a definite plus. Detailed oriented, good at communication, and team oriented.
