|Position Description Summary:||
The Department of Pathology at the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates, the independent non-profit faculty clinical practice group affiliated with the George Washington University, is seeking an academic molecular pathologist. The GWU Medical Center is a growing institution located in the heart of the nation’s capital, with expanding clinical and academic programs and a modern, state-of-the-art hospital facility. This search is being conducted in conjunction with the newly created GW Cancer Center (GWCC), which incorporates all relevant cancer-related activities at GW. The GWCC has been charged to be an incubator of intra- and interdisciplinary collaboration in cancer diagnosis, treatment, biology, clinical/translational science, genomics, bioinformatics and computational medicine, and in population science and policy. The Department of Pathology is in the midst of significantly expanding the scope and complexity of in-house molecular and genomic analysis, including next-generation sequence analysis.
|Specific Duties and Responsibilities:||
The successful candidate will provide clinical service and technical oversight as part of the Molecular Pathology Service in the GWU Hospital, and depending on experience, may serve as Chief of Molecular Pathology. The new GWCC and other relevant clinical services will provide rich and varied clinical material for analysis, sign-out, and the pursuit of clinical and/or translational research. The successful candidate will also have limited responsibilities in other clinical pathology services and will be expected to contribute to the total mission of the department – quality clinical service, effective teaching, and productive research. Academic rank will be based on experience and academic accomplishments.
MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent. Candidates must be Board-certified in Clinical Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and Board-certified or Board-eligible in Molecular Genetic Pathology, at the time of appointment. Candidates must be eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the District of Columbia. Candidate should also have experience, acquired during training and/or in practice, in assisting in the development of molecular assays.
